Pennant leader board:
Forty-seven degrees on Wednesday
drew just six players (for a non-comp)
whereas 34 degrees on Saturday drew
33 players to the still verdant greensward
for a cracking Stableford competition,
played off the white tees in a light breeze.
Jimmie Breuer accounted for the A
graders with his initially sublime front
nine then somewhat shaky back nine
to return with a dominant 42 points. Our
highly steamed president, Ian Michael,
played well for a solid 40 points and
second place, while Michael Day’s 37
beat that of Robert Hart on a count
back. Muscling their way determinedly
to the 19th’s cooling embrace were M.
Hameister (36), W. Lokan (36), C. Michael
(32), D. Hannaford (32) and in their dust,
D. Taylor (28). W. Parkin tried valiantly to
to complete the journey but decided that,
after nine holes, his fve week’s absence
from the fray had taken its toll.
The B graders were bullied by "5 -
nil” Bill Berry’s beautifully bludgeoned
47 points, leaving Dave Barnett (44) to
wonder just how hard it must be to win
anything these days, although Scott
Michael (43) was far more philosophical
about the business. Those lesser lights
who trudged home were W. Nagle (40), L.
Hart (39), M. Smith (37), J. Michael (34),
J. Pengilly(34), A. Henstridge (30), G.
Ackland (30) and a languidA. Leaver (26).
Digby Addison went from feather
duster to rooster with a C grade-crushing
44 points, then young Noah Barnett (43)
bounced lean, mean Dean Trickett (41)
into third who in turn ground Greg An-
derson into a dusty fourth spot. Left with
no spot to ground into were R. Campbell
(37), Tania Matz (37), M. Keast (37),
M. Hahesy (36), Joan Anderson (32),
D. Goudie (32), Chris Hahesy (28) and
Moya Hayes, who beat a hayestie retreat
to her solar-powered air conditioner after
a gutsy nine holes.
Birdies were achieved by Murray
"Smudger" Smith on the third, Ian "Pres."
Michael at the eighth, then both Mike
Hahesy and "5-nil" Bill Berry at the 10th.
Nearest The Pins were held by Dean
Trickett at the third, Ian Michael the eighth,
Bill Berry the 10th, Scott Michael the 15th
and then again, for his soaring second
slog onto the 13th. green.
Golfer of the Summer points were duly
awarded to Bill Berry (6), Digby Addison
(5), Dave Barnett (4), Scott Michael (3),
Noah Barnett (2) and we unrepresenta-
tive swill, just one each.
To celebrate Australia Day in proper
style, we’ll hold a two-person Ambrose hit
‘n giggle this Saturday, with a communal
tee time of 12am, or noon, whichever
comes frst, to be decided by our starter
Scott "Steak Sandwiches" Michael. Any
and all areas of disputation resulting from
this galah event will be heard before his
Grace, the eminent Mr Greg Anderson,
from his hastily assembled, somewhat
vulnerable cardboard and string cham-
bers at, or at least very near, the 19th.
Due to the extreme heat there was no
golf on Thursday, but Saturday, 19 players
competed in a Stableford competition with
the big hitting but sometimes wayward,
Colin Doudle, winning the day with 43pts
from Roland Pawlak 41, George Dahlitz
40 Win Van Pelt & Doug Cooper 39 (c/b)
all being prize winners while other play-
ers to make the better half were Keith
Kluske, Trudy Ireland 39 Max Grasby,
Lance Hatcher 38, Bob Hinderwell, John
Mitchell, Vince Zito 37.
Birdies: Barry Schwartz 9th & 14th,
George Dahlitz 1st & 17th, Anton Noack
7th, Colin Doudle 1st, Bob Hinderwell 9th,
John Mitchell 2nd, Dennis Nation 12th.
John Mitchell again dominated the
nearest to the pins winning on the 4th, 9th
& 12th while Barry Schwartz won the 14th.
On Saturday 11/1/14 Hamley Bridge
players Colin Doudle, George Dahlitz,
Roger Hahn & Wim Van Pelt journeyed to
Ardrossan Golf club to play in the annual
"Locals versus Shackies" Ambrose com-
petition "Locals " being Club Members
& "Shackies" being outsiders Forming a
total of 98 players.
The Hamley team shot a 3 under
67 off the stick to win 1st prize for The
"Shackies" but overall the "Shackies Lost
to the Locals" however plans are already
underway to recruit some "mercenaries"
to reverse the results next year!
Results from January 9 & 11.
The Stableford event was dominated
by John Mitchell, winning the day, taking
all three Nearest to The Pins (fourth,
ninth and 14th), scoring three birdies
and shooting the equivalent of 1 over the
card off the stick. Lance Hatcher came
in second with 40 points from Warren
Isgar 39 to complete the prize winners,
while the rest in the better half were
Barrie Zerna 36, Barry Schwartz, Wim
Van Pelt, Bob Ahola and Dennis Hawke
35. Barrie Zerna (1) was the only player
besides John Mitchell to make a Birdie.
On a perfect day for golf, 19 players
competed in Saturday’s Par competition,
with some very high scores recorded. The
big-hitting but sometimes wayward Colin
Doudle won the day on a countback from
an in-form Doug Cooper and a consistent
Barry Schwartz, all with a credible +8.
Others to do well were Bob Hinderwell
+7, Brian Cooper, Mick Nicholls and
Roland pawlak +6, Barrie Zerna and
George Dahlitz +5.
Nearest to The Pins: Barry Schwartz
fourth and Roland pawlak ninth. Birdies:
Barry Schwartz fourth, Wim Van Pelt 12th,
John Mitchell sixth, Roland Pawlak ninth,
Mick Nicholls sixth.
