Division 1 preliminary final
Clare Blue 80 (I James 30, R Wurst 24, B Sims
26) defeated Blyth 67 (I Wandel 20, P Farley 23,
D Philp 24).
Division 2 preliminary final
Blyth 59 (B Kennett 21, R Arbon 19, K Baggen-
dorf 19) defeated Auburn 53 (M Smith 15, J Watts
23, M Mount 15).
Grand final at Saddleworth this Saturday: Divi-
sion 1 – Clare Gold v Clare Blue, starting 1pm.
Division 2 – Clare Green v Blyth, starting 1.30pm.
THE Division Two grand final featured
the minor premier Mallala Black against
Port Wakefield Blue which had won the
two previous premierships.
Malcolm Dunstan (MB) was drawn to
play against Steve Reimers (PWB), John
Blacket (MB) was due to face Terry Cluse
(PWB), and Keith McDonald (MB) had
David Thorpe (PWB) as his opposing
As with the Division One match, Port
Wakefield Blue gained the advantage over
the opening ends with two of the three
rinks highly competitive.
Going into the afternoon tea break,
Terry Cluse (PWB) led John Blacket
(MB) 18-13 while David Thorpe (PWB)
led Keith McDonald (MB) 10-6.
Meanwhile, Steve Reimers (PWB) had
already established a match winning lead
for Port Wakefield Blue with a 20-1 score
line against Malcolm Dunstan (MB).
So, at the break, Port Wakefield Blue
was 28 shots up overall.
Upon resumption of play, only
John Blacket’s rink (MB) was able
to make inroads into Port Wakefield
Blue’s lead scoring 17-6 over the clos-
ing ends to finally defeat Terry Cluse
On another rink, David Thorpe (PWB)
scored 15-7 in the second half of the match
to eventually defeat Keith McDonald
Meanwhile, Steve Reimers’ rink
(PWB) continued their strong showing
to amass a 41-14 win over Malcolm
At the conclusion of the match,
Port Wakefield Blue was victors by 33
shots against a gallant Mallala Black
side. For Port Wakefield Blue it was
now three successive Division Three

Wakey Blue claims three-peat
THE 2013-2014 Division Three premier-
ship featured Balaklava White and Port
Wakefield Gold, both vying for their first
premiership in this Division.
Jim Bastian (BW) was drawn to play Ken
Anderson (PWG), Ron Hillman (BW) was
due to face Lex Robertson (PWG) while
Colin Stewart (BW) was drawn against Ken
At afternoon tea, Balaklava White has
established a comfortable lead in two of the
three rinks with the remaining rink being in
Port Wakefield Gold’s favour.
Ron Hillman (BW) led Lex Robertson
(PWG) 25-11; Jim Bastian (BW) had a 22-5
lead over Ken Anderson (PWG), while Ken
Stone (PWG) had a narrow 13-12 lead against
Colin Stewart (BW).
Upon resumption of play, Balaklava White
controlled the match over the remaining ends
to gain wins on all three rinks.
Ron Hillman (BW) secured a 38-15 win
over Lex Robertson (PWG), Jim Bastian
(BW) accounted for Ken McDonald (PWG)
43-12, while Colin Stewart (BW) completed
the task defeating Ken Stone (PWG) 24-22
in the closest rink on the day.
For Balaklava White, a comfortable
56-shot win to secure the Division Three
premiership against a gallant Port Wakefield

WITH the conclusion of an eventful and close grand
finals series, the presentation ceremony was conducted.
WMBS president, Allan Chivell, opened the proceed-
ings welcoming bowlers and spectators. He also thanked
Balaklava Bowling Club for hosting the grand final.
The Wooroora Men’s Bowling Section’s sponsors
were duly acknowledged – Bunyip Print & Copy, McAr-
dle Pty Ltd, Ridley AgriProducts Pty Ltd, Schahinger
Motors, and the Plains Producer.
Premiership shields and badges were then presented
by WMBS president, Allan Chivell, with the assistance
of past president, Peter Furst, and Plains Producer
manager, Andrew Manuel, to the respective winners
